Every adult-use cannabis product in New York must clear laboratory testing before it can be sold. For flower and pre-rolls, the make-or-break microbial analytes are pathogens that must be absent — and a failed lot can only be remediated once before it must be destroyed.
Aspergillus
New York requires four Aspergillus species — A. fumigatus, A. flavus, A. niger, and A. terreus — to be entirely absent from tested product. Presence in a single sample fails the lot.
Yeast, mold & bacteria
Total yeast and mold, aerobic bacteria, Salmonella, and STEC are tested on every lot. Extracted and infused products carry hard numeric limits under state testing rules.
One shot at remediation
Under OCM rules, a failed lot may be remediated only once. If it fails again, the entire lot must be destroyed — inventory, packaging, labor, and revenue included.

Microbial DNA is the target. Your product is not.
RAD-C treats product with high-energy photons generated by a Rad Source 420XL — the same X-ray technology family used to sterilize medical products. The photons penetrate flower and packaging and break apart microbial DNA, so organisms can't reproduce, grow, or rebound.
Because cannabinoids and terpenes are simple molecules without DNA, the treatment mechanism has nothing to attack in them. The process is non-thermal and chemical-free: nothing is added to your product, and your product never leaves its sealed container.

Rad Source 420XL
RAD-C runs the Rad Source 420XL, a cannabis decontamination system built on the patented Quastar® X-ray emitter. Rad Source's photon technology comes from the medical world, where it's used in blood irradiation and sterilization.
No radioactive isotopes are involved — the emitter is electrically powered and switches off like a light bulb. Product treated with X-rays does not become radioactive, and the manufacturer reports a 99.9% reduction of harmful microbials with minimal-to-no effect on cannabinoids, terpenes, and moisture.

Does X-ray treatment make cannabis radioactive?
No. X-ray photons pass through the product and are gone the moment the emitter switches off — like light through a window. The Rad Source system uses no radioactive isotopes, and treated product does not become radioactive. The same principle is used on medical devices and food worldwide.
Will treatment change potency, terpenes, or moisture?
The treatment targets DNA, which cannabinoids and terpenes don't have. It's non-thermal and adds nothing to the product. Rad Source reports minimal-to-no effect on cannabinoids, terpenes, and moisture, and peer-reviewed research on X-ray treatment of cannabis supports that profile. Our handling process — sealed bags, no compression, climate-controlled storage — protects everything else.
Can remediated product be retested and sold in New York?
Yes — New York's OCM rules include a defined remediation pathway. A failed lot may be remediated, then retested by the same laboratory that issued the failed COA. Do I have to unpack my product?
Usually not. X-rays penetrate most packaging, so pre-packaged product can often be placed directly into the canister. The exceptions are glass and metal packaging — Mylar bags and plastic tubes are fine.
Can I treat product before it's tested?
